  1. I just downloaded a small movie file (about 20 minutes) but windows media player (or any other players) won't let me fast forward. Every time I try to skip ahead the bar just jumps back to where it was. Basically to watch the last minute you have to watch the 19 minutes before that. Does anyone know how to fix this?????

Lots of WMV files have this problem. I think it has to do with the codec they use. I seem to recall that there was a solution - it involved getting a certain version of the WMV codecs from Microsoft, but it might not work any more with WMP10.

Chances are the wmv is not indexed (or corrupt). ASF Tools should be able to correct the problem.

Is it a WMV file? If it's AVI you can run it through Virtualdub and resave it to repair the index. There are other programs that can repair AVI and MPEG also. Look under repair in 'Tools' to the left.

  8. This is a ommon problem with AVI files. Use Media Player Classic to play and then use Ctrl-left or right key to go forward & backward. It works.
