I'm a newbie to this game so hopefully I've got the correct forum. First thanks to all the members whose posts have assisted me to get this far.

My basic problem is that my copy of a home movie on DVD-RW does not copy correctly to DVD-R. Details below

    1) I have just recenty purchased a Sony DVD201E camcorder and recordered some footage in Video mode (not VR)
    2) Imported this into Intervideo WinDVD Creator, added a title, chapters, deleted some scenes and authored.
    3) Burned to a Imation DVD-RW 2X, this plays on PC and DVD player
    4) Using Intervideo DVD Copy 2 I copied this to a Imation DVD-R 4X, I'm pretty certain I did this at 2x rate, this works on PC but not a DVD player - this is my problem
    5) I've checked the disk quality ratings on this site and they both seem fairly good, actually I went to these disks after some earlier failing with cheaper disks

Any sugestions on where I may have gone wrong. I wrongly assumed that if it works on the DVD-RW, a straight copy to a DVD-R would be OK. Maybe I copied incorrectly, or the software I'm using is not stable. I plan to upgrade my PC but I don't think its low spec is the problem

I do have Nero startsmart/express as well, but haven't used on this occasion.

Thanks in advance for any help

For DVD-5 (any kind) to DVD-5 (any kind) I recommend DVDDecrypter ISO Read -> ISO Write. That wil create a true 1:1 copy. Any differences noticed in playability between original and copy, created this way can only be due to media compatibility issues.

    Thanks Mats

Its taken me while geing back to you.

I checked out the DVD Decryptor s/w. It looks good and I will continue to use it. However it didn't quite fix my problem.

I checked out the followng post for using NERO to burn from a TS_Video folder on my hard drive to a disk. I have been successful on DVD-RW and DVD-R disks, works in PC and DVD player.

Not sure why it worked, something to do with profile settings, and I think using CAPS when naming the disk/project

I even woke up the wife and told her of my final success - shes estatic!! LOL

Hm... One thing might be that the VIDEO_TS folder should be upper case only. Now, not all players enforce this, and gracefully understands that video_ts=VIDEO_TS. Some (few, I think) tho, aren't that inclined to bend the standard, and refuses to accept a DVD with a video_ts folder as a Video DVD.

Place and process the disc (either the DVD-RW or DVD-R) with it in your computer DVD Drive with CloneDVD, making a whole new set of DVD files. Then use the same program to burn these to a new DVD-R. This should play on your DVD player.
