I have a LiteOn 5005 with hacked firmware to allow 3-hour recording and to defeat MacroVision. I am generally happy with my 5005 with the exception of the drive that is in it. Does anyone know if it is possible to install a different recorder in the 5005? I don't have a problem with a cosmetic mismatch if it will work. By experience with LiteOn drives in computers, I have found that they just aren't as good as other drives such as Pioneer. It would be nice if it were possible to replace the LiteOn drive in the 5005.

It's a LiteOn 411 in there now. It should be fine. Good drive.
