    Hi

Can anyone help me here,i have ripped a DVD with DVD Decrypter and i noticed that the sound on a ripped DVD is lower that the original DVD.I have went ahead and transcoded it and onto DVD-R and on my home DVD player it sounds low too.I have the latest version.I noticed this happened after installing Alcohol 120% software but then i removed it.

I would appreciate any helpful ideas.

DVD Decrypter or any transcoder (dvd shrink) does not affect the sound. The sound remains the same as the original.

DVD Decrypter does not alter the sound in any way, transcoding software transcodes video, not audio. Doubt very much that alcohol is to blame (unless you've been on the Stella )

Edit - Waheed beat me to it

  4. This was discussed a couple of weeks ago here and some(including myself) have found the AC3 level several dB's lower after transcoding using DVDShrink, etc. This has something to do with the AC3 algorythem,DTS and LPCM is fine.
    fdonline,you are NOT imagining it.

I've Backed up about 400 movies and listen to all them at the same volume on my denon 3805 receiver, everytime they sound the exact same as the originals no dip in loudness or dynamics. Also the AC3 filesize & bitrates are the same before and after encoding.

If there were a 6-12db decrease in volume as stated in the other thread I would notice this Are people saying this happens on 1:1 copys where no encoding is required, I think something else is going on here otherwise everyone would have the same prob.

I was part of the original post on this, and the interesting things was that some posters were able to produce measurable differences. Personally, I haven't noticed, but then again, I didn't go looking. As it seemed to occur in multiple programs, one suggestion was that somehow reading from burning media instead of pressed might have an influence. It still doesn't make much sense in a digital world, but there was little else to go with.
