  1. i just started using LP mode for some of my recordings and the picture quality is way better than EP mode is..

i noticed there isnt all those macroblocks present in LP mode as they are in EP mode..

and LP mode makes vhs look real nice where i cant say the same for EP mode as it makes it look like crap..

i cant thank the person enough who hacked the firmware they did a damn fine job of doing it!!

SP mode is where the noticable improvements of vhs are. Record something with LP and SP and compare the two.

nooooo way. SP mode cleans up recorded movies, dont know about commercial vhs tapes. Try recording a late night talk show like Conan on a vhs tape, then experiment recording the vhs recording with SP/LP on the Ilo. SP mode actually cleans up the picture, while LP mode just records what you see orginally.

I may be the only one that does THIS - i have tons of very old vhs tapes that were done at 6-hr speed with some really old movies, tv shows and what not. I have just been slamming in the tapes one at a time, setting the hd04 to SLP, and hitting one-touch. Next day, I do the editing if I want to add chapter marks. To me, the quality is exactly as good as the old tapes, and its easier to keep them grouped just like the tapes were. BTW, when I have one with 6 hours of half-hour shows, I use "search" funtion to slam me as close to the next one as possible, then go intor edit mode. It's easier than sitting in edit and using 16x FF.

  6. i just thought i would mention this about EP mode and LP mode..

EP is good enough when you source is pure and clean like digital channels..when using EP mode on analog cable it tends to look like crap to me IMO..i am sorry but it does i havent hooked up my jvc svhs deck to it *YET but i am pretty sure the results will be subpar regardless..

while LP mode is good for both digital and analog sources..with some noise or without..

right now i am in the process of putting five 1 hour and 35 minute movies on the dual layer disk i bought when its done i will comment on the results..

of course i will be using EP mode for this task as well..

i did a few tests and from what i have seen both EP and LP look the same when the source is clean so my bad.

I'm assuming you are writing the dual layer disc from the computer, right? If yes, how are you able to transfer the video from the Ilo to computer for editing?
