  1. As of Friday night, Software Update should list it. There's also a combo updater available, Do you think Apple intended to have exactly 9 updates before 10.4 comes out? or is it coincidence?

    More like
"Let's fix all the problems with Panther since 10.36
( 10.35 was still the best release IMO), so that
we can create a feeling of good will before Tiger is
    Released."

Personally, I won't be running to get Tiger...
Too much work going on, and the last thing I need right now is to
have things broke in order to be "one of the first".

I'll catch you guys on 10.4.2.......

  3. I agree wholeheartedly!

Still using 10.3.5 Have not budged from there after reading Apple support forums after every update is released.

My only concern now terryj, is the requiements for iLife 5....they recommend 10.3.6 or later. Anybody having problems using iLife5 and 10.3.5 or 10.3.4? I'm still using iLife4 versions.

With all the bugs slowly getting worked out of iMovie HD and iPhoto 5, why upgrade....?!?!?

No, I tried to do it on 10.35, couldn't,
went ahead and jumped to 10.3.8,
but with all the issues with iMovie HD,
I pretty much haven't used it, and stayed with iLife 04.

Funny I've had zero issues with the 10.3 updates. Everything always goes great with apple updates and me. Well aside from that one time that the konfab plugin caused a problem but soon as it was disabled everything was back to normal.

Then again I don't use imovie so...

Be careful if you work in Java, I've read that 10.3.9 broke it for some people.

Yeah, I saw that Java was broke, Safari was broke....
    I'm suprised FW wasn't broke again....*sigh*

Once I get caught up on work, and get the new 250HD at the
end of the month, then I'll upgrade to 10.3.9.

but 10.4 is stil going to be WAAAY off for me....

Java apps like EyeHome ran fine but I had to reinstall Security Update 2005-002 to fix the problem with Java applets crashing Safari 1.3 after the 10.3.9 update.

Many claims that Safari 1.3 is "broke" are simply because of incompatibility with third-party plugins like AcidSearch, PithHelmet, and Saft -- all which have been updated now.

Every OS X update generates its share of misinformation and FUD.

i usually wait a few days after an update is released, but so far i've always gone ahead with them. no major problems, ever.

i prefer to run Diskwarrior before, and also repair permissions.

also, i generally download the 100 MB "combo" updater and use that instead of using the "delta" updater.

whenever possible, i also like to clone my hard drive before an update, in case i need to go right back to my last config. takes about 30-45 min.

I updated to 10.3.9 within an hour of it appearing.

My java is fine (tested on Runescape :P). My safari is fine (faster than before). Everything seems fine.

All you doomsayers should keep in mind that unhappy people often post in Apple's Support forums. Happy people almost never do.

If I owned a farm I'd be willing to wager it that the happy people outnumber the unhappy ones by a factor of at least 10000 to 1.

I upgraded right away, too. Well, after running SuperDuper! backups.

For whatever reason, the trouble with Java applets only happened on one of my systems. That's the first time I can remember having an OS-related problem after any OS update. The issues with Safari plugins weren't unexpected and have already been mostly addressed by their developers.

See Dave Hyatt's Safari 1.3 posting on his weblog. Performance has definitely improved, objectively and subjectively.

Apple's support forums are primarily a front-line support resource, serving a relatively high number of "mainstream" users with minimal technical experience seeking "quick fixes" for their problems. Seems a natural place for unhappy people to gather (and be reminded, "Don't Panic!"), if they can handle moderation with extreme prejudice.
