    Hi to all,

I am searching for a command line, mpeg2 cutter, preferably open source. I need to be able to give a terminal command like "mcut mike.mpg -time:5" and this will output the first 5 secs of mike.mpg in a mpeg2 video file.
I do not want to decode and reencode the file because I want it to be fast.

I've searched a lot and all I could find is DVTool and Dark Avenger's MPEG2Cut, which are not command line, and TMPGEnc which cannot handle all mpeg2 files.

Does anybody know of any other program?

Also, I know some and I have more then enough time in my hands, so I'm thinking of writing such a program from scratch. Do you know any good c libraries I good use? Remember, I do not want to decode/reencode but to work directly with the mpeg2 file.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: I know almost nothing about linux. I've been using debian for less than a month- but I'm learning. So please keep you answers simple linuxwise.

TMPGEnc? Linux? What about mpgtx? Seems like there are both Windows and *nix versions available.

Well, actually I'm searching in both platforms, but since commandline and open source are needed, i lean on linux.
Concerning mpgtx, I know it, but its site says:
"<< splitting and joining of MPEG 2 video files is experimental. (read "will work only in your wildest dreams")"

Well you were right. It does very good mpeg2 cutting. There are only some problems with transport layered video. I'll look into it.
    Thanks a lot.

PS: know any other cutter besides this?
