Hi Guys
I am wanting to make a compilation dvd for use as a demo disc with my home theatre.
I amusing DVDshrink to rip each chapter that i want from the dvd and then i will use it to reauther all the titles into one dvd.
the thing i am not sure about is that i want some DTS tracks in there as well. I have searched this forum and i have found that if you mix DD and DTS it may not work but i want to give it a shot.
The question i have is when im reauthoring how do i select the audio track that i want. I have been trying to do it on my Eagle Hell freezes Over DVD and when i play back the file using power dvd it only mentions a PCM stereo track and not the DTS track. is this normal? is the DTS track embedded in the file so when i play it back i can have DTS or PCM stereo?
I have tried right clicking on the title and brining up the audio track selector but it only show PCM stereo.
am i doing something wrong.
Thanks

If you use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode to put everything together this wont be a problem. Mixing DD and DTS is only a problem when they are in the same titleset, and the audio formats of each title are in matching streams. I believe Shrink will create each of these as seperate titlesets (VTS) and aviod this issue.
The best way to be sure - test a couple of chapters and find out.Read my blog here.

If i wanted to get the DTS track would it be possible to do the following
Rip the show with only the DTS track to the hard drive leaving off all the extras. then reauthoring that using DVDshrink for the track that i want.
Will this work? does DVD shrink only compress the video and leave the audio uncompressed because with this track the audio is the main thing im after.
what do you think? -
Yes. In fact if the disk doesn't have the new arcoss protection, then load it up into Shrink, hit reauthor, set your start and end points for the chapter you need, and rip just that bit. I would suggest ripping all the chapters you need with No Compression set to begin with (should happen anyway as these will be small) to the HDD. You will get a lot of small Video_ts folders, probably with only one small vob in each. Once you have them all, load up shrink, go into reauthor mode and keep adding these folders until you have you disk. If, at this time, it is larger than a DVD5, Shrink can reduce it to fit.
Shrink does not touch the audio, so AC3 5.1 and DTS will stay as they are. DTS will be another audio stream. Power DVD should see it. Shrink will as well, however it will probably be unchecked by default.Read my blog here.

So if i reauthor does it rip the DTS track automatically or do i have to select something and if i have to sleect something what do i select because at the moment there is no mention of the DTS audio track and once i rip it in the is no files in the audio folder. the only files are in the video folder.

Shrink will not rip the audio for you. What it will do (in reauthor mode) is take a section of the movie and rewrite it so that only the section you specified, with the audio tracks you ticked, is written to the HDD. When you load the movie into Shrink you should see all the available audio tracks listed. Some will be ticked, some wont be. By default DTS is not ticked. It is shown under the compression settings tab. It will tell you the track, and the format. If Shrink isn't seeing the DTS track, and PowerDVD isn't seeing the DTS track, methinks you have a dodgy disk.
If you load it into Decrypter using ISO->Read, how many layers does the disk have ?Read my blog here.

I have done this successfully (although only with a full title - not selecting individual chapters).
I ripped a dvd to my hard drive with DVDDeCryptor.
I launched DVDShrink and selected the titles I wanted in reauthor mode.
I dragged the main title over - and included both the dolby digital and dts track. I then selected the audio track I wanted it to default to by right clicking each title in the left hand window and choosing the default audio and subs I wanted. As someone else said, since they are separate titles, my player doesn't mind switching between dolby digital and dts. And DVDShrink sets up these titles to play straight through without having to use the player menu to access them (like CloneDVD2 used to require).
