  1. What tools do I need to put my Camcorder videos onto CD and DVD? I have a Sony Digital Cam DCR-TRV950.

    Thanks,

    I'm presuming it's a DV camcoder, you need -

    camcorder
    firewire cable
    firewire port
    large hard drive
    software to capture DV(there's loads)
    editing software (try Virtualdub)
AVI to MPEG converter (try Canopus Procoder)
    DVD burner
DVD burning software (try RecordNow Max)
Blank discs (Taiyo Yuden are good)

Oh I forgot, patience...lots of it

I recommend Ulead videostudio for capturing, editing and burning, until you get more experienced

Start with WinDV and work up from there.

The DCR-TRV950 is a very nice 3CCD prosumer level camcorder. Are you looking for a prosumer level solution with editing or simple transfer to DVD?

How big is the rest of your wallet?

(no I'm not a best buy salesman, I just play one on VideoHelp)

    No editing?

OK WinDV, then one of the following DVD authoring programs. The $$ are required for the MPeg2 Encoder royalties.

    TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress
    http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te3xp.html

    Ulead® DVD MovieFactory
    http://www.ulead.com/dmf/runme.htm

or the DVD authoring program of your choice.

PS: Both of these programs will capture DV directly from your camcorder over IEEE-1394, so you can skip WinDV, but try it first anyway for the learning experience.
