  1. Okay, quick question... I know how to use the timed capturing function with AVI_IO. Records great, everything's fine. If I have three different captures in a night, it'll capture like this:

    avi_capture0.avi - First Show Taped
    avi_capture1.avi - Second Show Taped
    avi_capture2.avi - Third Show Taped

Now, if I turn off AVI_IO and later on, reopen it and reset the timers to record something else, it'll try to record over avi_capture0.avi. Additionally... it'll ask me if I want to record over it, so if I set the timer to record overnight... I'm not there to click the Yes or No button, so I've missed the show regardless.

Is there a way to get it to bypass captures it's already recorded, not tape over them, and just capture to avi_capture4.avi or whatever it wants to call it, just capture it and not ruin the file I've already capture. Thanks in advance!

  2. Why not just rename them immediately after they have been captured?

  3. When you setup AVI_IO to assign session numbers to your capture files, it assigns them sequentially as long as you have it open by incrementing the session number value on the capture settings screen. But once you close and reopen it it does not remember what number you left off on, and starts over according to the saved setting on the capture settings screen.

I emailed the developer about this last week asking if he could add the option to "automatically save settings on exit" which would solve this problem. He wrote me back and said it's on his to do list. Maybe if a few more people request it, it will move a little closer to the top of that list.

If you are closing and opening it manually, just remember to save settings before you close it and it will pick up where it left off.

I have windows launching the app for me when I'm not around, so I have to schedule a batch file to run after each capture that sweeps each one into it's own folder. It's a PITA, but it works for now.

  4. As to why I don't just rename the files... when I capture shows, sometimes I'll end up with as many as 10 different segments. And it's a pain to rename all ten. What's easier is that I make a folder and just put all the captured files in that folder... then AVI_IO can restart at 0 and capture again without trying to erase over my current files.

But unfortunately, sometimes I just forget, I'm tired, I just want to set it to record and just go to sleep... wake up, and it didn't tape my show. GRRR!

I'll have to email the developer and hopefully he'll add that soon, I would say that it's pretty much my only gripe about the program.
