I guess my heading says it all. I have searched the forums but am still very confused (not difficult for me). Basically I have a lot of mixed DVD's. Some are Region 2, some are Region 1 and others have been transfered to DVD via DVDecrypter & Dvd Shrink.
I am thinking of getting a DVD player, but the one I particularly want is Region 1 only. If I copy all the region 2's with DVDecrypter.Shrink, will they play in the rgion 1 machine?

What region are the VHS tapes ?

Only kidding. In fact, I'm not sure where the VHS comes into it, as they don't get a mention after the subject heading. Anyway, the answer to your question is - probably. By default, DVD Shrink sets the disk to region free by setting it to All Regions. Most players don't care. Some prefer to see Region 0 for all regions instead. As there are so many other reasons the disk might not play, region is the least of your problems. Worst case - rip it again, run it through Shrink and set the region to 0 instead.

Thanks guns1inger. It looks as if not only am I confused, but I can easily confuse others too!
I think you've told me what I want to know, I wasn't sure if Region o (or region free) would run on a Region 1 machine. I guess they will.
I only mentioned VHS because I transfered them and as said "I was very confused".

Just remember that there is region 0 and all regions (i.e. all region numbers are set). They both try to make a disk play in all regions, but not all players respect both.

  6. If in doubt take an all region disc and a region 0 disc and play it in the player you want to buy.
