I've had the Initial 1810 for almost 2 years now & it has played beautifully for us 99% of the time. The only times it has failed for us is when we travel at high altitudes. We can start a movie in the car & everything will be fine. As we drive through the mountains, everything remains fine until we get pretty high up. Around 6000 feet or so, the movies start to skip around & become unwatchable. But this only happens when we are traveling at high altitudes. For example, we just had the previous problem mentioned in the car, but when we stayed overnight at a hotel at 7000 feet, the player played fine in the hotel room. The problem seems to have something to do with the change in altitude while driving. This has happened to us every time we travel like this (4 or 5 times). Anyone know what might cause this? Thanks.

  2. I have this player too. I don't know how the thinner air is affecting the player. Thanks for the info though.

In doing some research, I found a few references to plasma TVs having issues with high altitudes ... but nothing involving portable DVD players. If anyone has any insights, I'd love to hear them.

does it have a sealed transport like some do ?

as you move up - the pressure decreases outside the case , causing the case to to slightly deform ..

if you open the top, the pressure is equalized and no issue ..

A sealed transport? I'm not sure. The initial 1810 looks & functions like most portable DVD players. Next time, I will try opening & closing the player when we drive through the mountains.

as you go up also == your tires get harder , so do gas shocks ..

maybe the ride is just getting more bounce and the player cant take it ..
