Does anyone have suggestions to this dilema?
I encode with TMPGenc. I author with DVDLab. I duplicate on a 5 Pioneer 107 duplicator. I use 4x Ridata-Ritek Inkjetable disks that are branded ritek in the center (or was that Ridata). Some people complain that the DVD's stutter when they are playing tracks farther than half-way out on the disk. One guy said he copied it with his computer and burned it to a blank DVD and it played fine in his Sony DVD player. What can I do to get better compatability? Is it the Ritek blanks? Is it the Pioneer 107's? They have the latest firmware, I think. I updated them all this winter to 1.18 or higher, don't remember. Or is it just the tolerances of cheap players? Anyone have an idea?

I've not had any issues with the RitekG04 media, I burn with Pioneer 105.

The closest you can come to perfect compatability is to have the disk professionally mastered and pressed. Even this will not get you 100%, but will get you into the 99.x% range.

Burned media is inherently risky because of the manufacturing process. It is not as reliably readable as pressed disks. Format issues still exist (+R vs -R), and there is no way to guarantee that one disk will play in all players.

Try different brands (Ritek is copping a slagging here now, whereas 6 months ago it was king) - TY gets a lot of recommendatiosn here.

It could be the duplicator, if this is happening consistently. Try burning one from a single PC burner and see if you have more success.

Above all, be systematic in your attempts to fix it (i.e. test the duplicator first, using your current brand of disks, then test changing disks) or you may never know what the fix was.

Thanks. I will try a different brand of disks. I had read that some folks were having minor troubles using DVDLab with mpeg's encoded with TMPGenc. I need to take my source mpeg2's and try with a different authoring program.
