Which type/model DVD player do you recommend I purchase that can play domestic as well as international DVDs? And where can I purchase one?
Most of my international DVDs are Asian movies and can't be played with a U.S. DVD player (I have 2 and tried).
Please let me know.

Whats the problem? Region or TV system or both?
If your TV doesnt support PAL you need a regionfree player with multiconvert, you find them in the menu to the left, click on "DVD Players".

I just found out that a store bought DVD could not be played on any DVD player despite it saying it is a "DVD-9" So I asked helpful people here and they told me it ended up being a DVD-5 and to reburn it.
However i was wondering if it was the machine that needed to bought in order to play the DVD-5 or should I simply follow their advice and reburn, or return the store bought DVD?
Any advice would be appreciated. -
In your first post you mention Asian movies, and they are more often DVD5, but its still a real pressed DVD-ROM and should play in ANY player that can play a DVD9. If you want to keep that movie then "reburn" it, i agree there.
I thought your problem was in general with different disks, but now you only mention about one? -
Yes it's the first problem I've come across with. Sorry for confusion, but I only meant that I can't play this Asian "supposed" DVD-9 that now people are telling me is a DVD-5 and was going to buy a new "international" player.
I plan to buy more, and I just don't want the problem to reoccur. So wondering if buying a player is necessary or burning the DVD is the better choice.
Thanks for your opinion. -
Yamaha has an all region dvd player out now at bestbuy, but I don't remember the model#.

I would look for a Pioneer region-free player, they are very forgiving with bad disks and reliable quality. Ask the sales staff if they can make it regionfree for you if it isnt already. As a many times Yamaha motorcycle owner i like them too a lot, but i dont know about their DVD players.
Their CD players back in the 80ies used to skip on badly scratched disks where the Pioneers of the time would attempt to play no matter how bad it was.

You have two options:
1.Buy a multisystem DVD player, look for "plays all regions and has a built-in PAL to NTSC converter" because some multisystem players support PAL but will NOT output to NTSC.
2.Rip with DVDDecrypter, reencode to NTSC and burn a DVDR.
www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=multisystem+DVD+player -
So then most basic DVD players out there (U.S) that you buy in stores like CompUSA, Circuit City, Good Guys, etc. are only NTSC with restricted regions. Is this correct?

The disc in question is an all-region disc. See DVDInfoPro results in this thread:

It should therefore play in any DVD Player in the world.
On topic: I would suggest a Cyberhome 300. Cheap & has an easy region-free hack.If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter.

Ok so far I got it where it CANNOT play on my Sony DVp-NS501P DVD player but it CAN play on a Go Video DVP850. They both have a "region 1" symbol on the back of the players. Not sure if these machines have a "Pal restriction" since I don't have manuals to either. But my Sony DVP-NS5101P can play DVD+R/RW and CD+R/RW which tells me it should play VCDs also and whatever type DVD there is out there burned.
So does this mean anything that the DVD players should be different (bought in U.S. retail stores) or is it still the disc that is the problem?
Thanks so much for all of your help in both posts. -
Just because a NTSC DVD player is region free doesn't mean it will play PAL,TV standard and region are totally different. Many cheap Chinese DVD players support PAL but that doesn't mean they will play properly on your TV.
Sony,Toshiba,JVC,etc will not play a PAL DVD unless you change the info in the .IFO files(read DJRumpy's guide). -
Look into Phillips dvp642, they sell everywhere plays everything and has all the systems.

Many thanks to you all -
cyberhome, about 30$ - does ntsc-pal conversion i got one 4 months ago, perfect
philips 642 about 60$ don;t know about conversion
these 2 are probably the easiest ones to crack, just the remote. the crack you'll find it here,
if you don;yt get with a system conversion, you'll need an ALL region tv. -
