I still prefer crts..but I think my next monitor will be a huge lcd.
-
LCD. If I can afford, wide screen.
/Mats -
Widescreen LCD for both my Entertainment Room and one for my PC.
-
we've got some relatively "top-of-the-line" LCD's at work & I am not at all impressed...
i've been shopping around as one of my monitor's at home is dying and I also just spent about a year deciding on a new TV

i still like crt.
im using a sony 20 for a year now, and dont have a bad thing to
say about it.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE -
Currently (last few months) using a Sony KDF-50WE655 50" Widescreen for my desktop/video editing system monitor using component inputs from an ATI 8500DV with adapter. It works better than I had hoped, rock solid desktop, bang on color. I would have never bought it just for TV, but as a video editing monitor it's great. Racing games take on a whole new life too
-
I already have a 17" LCD, so I would go for an LCD widescreen next.
TANSTAAFL -
Monitors give a better picture, but to save space I choose a LCD for next time.

I went for an LCD after doing some simple arithmetic based on the power consumption of a CRT monitor. It worked out that I would save the cost of the LCD in under 2 years out of the electricity budget and thereafter I would save money.
Add that to the fact that the footprint is so much smaller and my home desk is small and I was sold on buying a new monitor. Sod what the other half said, tight so-and-so !Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. -

I just went to a 19" 12ms (1280x1024) LCD, the X9 Gamer from Sceptre. I was so impressed with the picture quality, I bought another one for the kids.
Same reasons as some other posters. I've been looking for over year waiting for the response time to come down so that games and video come out clear without ghosting. With the 8ms ones coming out the 12 and 16ms are diving in price. I checked a 16ms at a local CC (a Sony) and could still catch a glimpse of ghosting. Then I saw a 12ms (forget the brand) at Best Buy and was finally sold.
Between the aesthetic (great picture), ergonomic (less space) and economic (ALOT less power) I finally took the dive. I spent $385 (Newegg, of course) on them, about $85 more than what I wanted to but between the response time, the size and all the inputs I felt it was worth going over the budget.
They're replacing a 21" and 20" CRTs immediately, and, both rooms will soon be without a TV as well (that'll help defray the cost a bit). I've hooked up the consoles (a gamecube -me- and an XBOX -the kids-) to the s-video input and the view is great. It’s been two weeks and still not a dead/stuck pixel. Looks like it'll be smooth sailing.
The transition time is now. LCD is ready for everyday computing and video. We finally have crisp text and smooth video in one.Have a good one,
neomaine

^^If i got that I'd use 128px icons hehe.
Seriously, I have a 17" Samsung LCD monitor since about 2 yrs, never want a crt again in my life. I may get a 2nd one for video editing (with S-video input). I'm thinking it will be a 4:3 one though. -
Im a gamer, CRT coupled with a very nice Nvidia card.
Quality is my policy. -
I've heard some bad reviews on that one Baldrick...
BTW, I still prefer CRT's... -

Maybe by the time it's not "newish" anymore, there will be a good one out there that supports HDMI. That would rock."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

So far...CRT.
Nothing on the market today out performs the tried and true CRT.
Not Plasma, DLP, LCD, etc etc... -
I think the Dell is almost the same exact screen as what Apple uses in theirs. I mean how many LCD manufactuers (there really are not many) are making a 24" LCD Wide Screen?
That aside as much as I like the idea of widescreen most of the WS CRTs cost too much and I'm really hooked on CRT. My brief time as an LCD owner really sucked.
My 19" Mitsu/NECs with aperture grills are good enough for me. Clean, bright, and good color. -
In my case, the considerations are more related to practicality. The LCD screens look just fine to me. But, they don't weigh very much. This can be a major (and eventually expensive) problem in a household with certain cats. My cat will sit on my desk, follow cursor movement and occasionally take a swat at the cursor (grin). And if it was an LCD screen, she'd likely knock it over. It probably wouldn't take too many knockdowns before an LCD monitor would be down for the count.
Besides, my current 17" only cost me $60 new at Circuit City. An LCD monitor would be at least twice that. And, I'd prefer "standard" over "wide" screen. The only time I ever watch videos on my monitor is when I edit them. I reserve "watching" them for my TV. -
LCD. Probably a 19" with a digital input. While I like the CRT picture, I just use the display for a monitor, I rarely view videos in length on it and I could use the extra desk space.
