Hey guys, I got a bit of a problem, my current DVD Player sucks at playing my burned DVDs. I have a Sony HT-1700D, I'm using Ridata DVD+Rs, they work in the player but in most cases they get to a point where it freezes/skips/starts over, whatever. I'm hoping the problem lies in my player, bought it awhile ago and it came in one of those big package things with a sub and speakers. The DVD's work in my computer, they even work better in my Playstation 2 of all things. If my player is indeed the problem what do kind of player do you guys think could play this things? I dont wan't to feel like I've wasted a bunch of money. If the player isn't even the problem feel free to enlighten me!
Thanks for the help

You might want to try some different disks before you buy a new player.

its funny the way lots of people say that its a good player cause it plays everything i throw at it
Ive only owned one dvd player and its a pioneer, but my one dosnt like it when i throw MP3 disc's at it -
i bought an apex for less than twenty quid,it does everything but make the tea

I would get a an apex or something similiar, generic. They play anything, vcd's svcds, pal discs.

I also think the problem is the media, try scanning your DVD's in Nero CD-DVD Speed or KProbe. If you get PIE errors >280 or PIF errors >20 that's bad.
It's also possible that your Sony is overheating, open up the case(unplug first) and blast everything with a can of air then move the player away from other components.
One last thing:are you using labels on your DVD's?If so don't. -
Samsung HD745 - with DVI out, DivX support, plays SACD's and DVD-Audio - £100 !!
I love this player - I am one happy bunny. -
It's the Ridata/Ritek disks. Something tells me that you have a Liteon DVD burner also.
Get some Japanese disks and try again. You'll be pretty pissed off when you buy a new player and it won't play the disks either. You can always use the Ridata disks as data disks. That must be why they changed the name from Ritek to Ridata. They're only good for data.
