After having so many troubles getting svcd2dvd V2 RC7 and RC8 working on my system after good success with RC6, I returned to Microsoft upgrades and discovered that the service pack 1 to the .net framework had not updated properly. After I initially installed SVCD2DVD upon initial registering, I ran the update, and it appeared to have taken.
Upon redoing the service pack 1 update, RC8 is working very well, and showing none of the earlier unstabilities, so appollogize for my posts about how the software is worthless.
However, the decision to use .net framework for this application eludes me, other than to ensure maximum "donations" for its use. Wouldn't it be fairly simple for the application to check that the .net framework is the proper version? Microsofts use of "service packs" rather than direct corrections of bugs has always infuriated me. SVCD2DVD is also by far the slowest opening appliation ever on my PC, requiring nearly 40 seconds to initialize.
Cheers,

What I'm "on" about is all of my wasted time simply because a microsoft update didn't work properly. I'm using win98 because I do not like Microsoft at all, or anything related to microsoft, and choose to minimize their profits. Microsoft updates require Internet Explorer, which I absolutely abhore, for a multiple of reasons, non-functionality being one of them.
On my PC, RC7 and RC8 REQUIRE the service pack 1 update to work at all, otherwise a blue screen crash on opening.
I understand that the .net framework is for web enabled applications, and the only web based use of SVCD2DVD is the automatic registration process, where the "donations" are verified.
Most applications similar to SVCD2DVD are fairly small, a few megabytes. SVCD2DVD plus the .net framework is a HUGE application, around ten times that size. So your development application requires that, yes I understand. That was your choice.

.net framework is NOT only for web based applications
Understand the technology.
I can write a "hello world" console application in 3 lines of code which has nothing to do with the web - but would still require the framework.
RC7/8 do not require .net sp 1. you probably would have found that reinstalling the framework would have yieded the same result.
If you don't like MSFT use mac/linux... if you don't like SVCD2DVD use DVDLab... as you say it is 100% bug free and does everything you want. It is quite simple - if you don't like it don't use it.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
