Someone please tell me if I should ignore the pop up windows while installing the ASPI layer that Sefy sent me.
    Here is what it says:

in window...Adaptec ASPI upgrade- This utility upgrades ASPI for Windows 95/Windows NT. Do you wish to continue?

    So, do I?

Also, opened ASPI Installation Component saying- ASPI is not properly installed. One or more components have been replaced with older versions of software.

I unzipped it to the same folder as my Tmpegenc (which has all the 3 softwares used for burning as specified in Sefy's Newbie DVD rip instructions). What do I do from here, please?

  2. Hi Tracey,

The ZIP file I send you contains 3 files if I remember correctly: ASPI1019.EXE, ASPICHK.EXE and ASPIUPD.EXE
first you run ASPI1019.EXE and boot up, if all worked well, then ASPICHK will say you have v4.60 Build 1019 installed
then you run ASPIUPD and this will update it to Build 1021.

O.K., I'm ba-aaack. I am taking you literally, and copied ASPI1019.EXE into RUN. It popped up saying the file doesn't exist or whatever. The files are unzipped and look like this:
    ASPI1019
    ASPI for Windows95/WinNT Installer
    Adaptec

    ASPICHK
    ASPI Installation Verification
    ADAPTEc

    ASPICHK
    Text Document
    1 KB

    ASPIUPD
    ASPI for Win95/WinNT Installer
    Adaptec

Which, I am sure you knew already. I thought by unzipping them, they would be installed, but it doesn't look like it. I do not understand what you mean. As you did last time, you are going to have to give me baby step directions to understand the computer lingo. Sorry I am dense when it comes to this stuff. Honestly, I DO have some redeeming qualities! Computer stuff will be one.....eventually. (sigh)

    Master Sefy,

I did as you told me, and POOF, magic! Next question.

I double clicked and said yes to the upgrade on both apps as directed by your wisdom in the earlier post. It now says it is "fully operational and funtional and a total of 2 host adapters have been detected".
ALL GOOD, RIGHT?? It is just there and is not an app I will ever have to "open" per se to move along in my vcd burning missions, right?

After I burn my first movie, I am going to show my gratefulness by giving a donation to this wonderful site! I am starting to get excited! It seems I am almost there! Just a few more hurdles. You think Pinnoyboy will return my email with the answers to my questions, or should I ask on the forum?

    (Bowing, bowing),

Don't apologize! I didn't mean it THAT way. I just don't know everyone well enough yet to know who actually give's a rat's #@%, or if I was not suppose to email you in the first place. Although, if I could have you and Sefy at my beck and call during my "tard moments", that would be great! OH, WAIT, I FEEL YOU ARE AT MY BECK AND CALL! lol!

You two have been enormously generous with your time.
I am off to my email to read your mail! Thanks, Tracey

  9. Tracey-San, you have now mastered the ASPI layer, feel ready and brave for the next step of your evolution, and that is, no need to worry about ASPI anymore, it works when needed, you don't need to do anything about it anymore

And i've been honoured to be able to assist you, and i'm glad to hear your problem is solved

    Feel free to email

Thanks for the help. I still am confused as to which formats to d/l so I can watch them on my DVD player to watch on the TV just like a regular DVD. Are you saying that the Divx codec will change it so I can burn the VCD to watch on the TV, NOT the computer? I want to know what types I have to d/l from Kazaa to burn and watch on my TV only. The thought of the fam sitting around the computer to watch a movie is not so enticing!

  11. no i mean the Divx codec will make your computer play DIVx files normaly and make TMPGenc open them to encode to a VCD or a SVCD ..and if your downloading movies you will probably download DIVX format of the movie not MPG 1 or 2 there is hardly any one will put that on there shared file for a long time cuze that takes up alot of space

  12. Basicly you can download both DivX and MGP files, and then convert them to VCD, however, quality will always depend on your source
