  1. This is my first post. I've done a couple of extensive searches before posting so if this is redundant, I apologize.

I am trying to play an AVI on my G4 IBook and get the following Quicktime error message:

"You may experience problems playing the video track in "[File Name+ DSRip.XviD-aAF.avi]" because the required compressor could not be found. Would you like to close the movie or continue?"

Here's where my confusion lies. These types of files play fine on my G4 desktop computer. Both are identical when it comes to software upgrades, etc...I edit in FCP on both machines. Quicktime Pro, etc...

Is this a hardware issue? I simply can find out what compressor I'm missing, given I've synced these computers so I can edit/watch the same videos/projects on both machines.

Thanks in advance. And again, apologies if this has been addressed. I could not find the topic anywhere on the site.

You are missing a required compressor on the
    laptop, period. Simple as that.

Check to make sure the following are installed:
    DIVX 5.21
    3ivx D4 4.5

if so, then check and make sure both version of QT are both the same, QT 6.52.
