Hi
After looking for ages at reviews etc I chose a JVC DR-MH30S over a Pioneer 720. What swung me at the end was all the praise that Lordsmurf gives the JVC models. I've had it a week now and am very impressed. I record of Sky TV and also transferred some DV footage from my camcorder, and transferred some of my old videos of the kids. It has excelled in all these tasks. I love the Navigation system, even the wife can use it. I have set it up to work my Sony TV with no problem. Now to my slight problem. I have a Grundig digital satellite receiver, not sure what model but it is black and probably the first model that came out when digital started. I have tried everything but cannot set up the Satellite Controller. I have tried all the different brand numbers for Grundig, 64, 65, and 102 with no success. I also cannot get the JVC remote to work the sky box. Could there be anything I'm not doing right or is it possible that the 2 sets are just not compatible. Have you got a sky box working with your system? At the moment I use Autoview and it works ok but I would prefer to set the channel manually if possible. Thanks for any help.

I have an MH30s. I found the tuner on it to be very sub-par. I am in the US, with Dish Network Satelitte. After initial tuner set-up to control Dish box, it became very inconsistent and eventually would not swith channels. Aftre powering off and power on, the tuner loses synch with the box. Also, I tried recording multiple shows using the tuner. It would record only the first show, then lose synch and record blank programs for the others. So my assessment is the tuner is just not a strong function of this unit. Recommend not to use it. Use RC that comes with cable box and connect to your recorder by SVideo or RCA cables.

Using satellite equipment in conjunection with VCRs/DVD recorders is almost like voodoo sometimes.
The tuner on the JVC is fine for me, only very weak-signal cable channels (or antenna OTA) are of any problem. I use it freqeuently. Probably could be better, but I'd say that about pretty much every DVD recorder tuner, to be quite honest. None of them are as good as a well-built VCR tuner.
For the short time I had both DirecTV and JVC together, I did what I always had, feed s-video from the receiver into the JVC, and when using any timer related functions, just set both of them up.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
