Nah, the made in Malaysia Sony discs should be manufactured by Daxon (part of BenQ group). Some discs with Sony MID are also made in Austria, Japan and Taiwan though.

Doesn't Sony own BenQ? One of the companies I work for has had dealings with Sony Malaysia. They must own some sort of manufacturing facility there.

The Taiwan discs are Riteks. Overpriced at $39.99. Get the made in Japan Maxells. Better yet, try to get the yellow topped 4x Maxells. Those have proven more reliable.

old thread but i should clear up some things. Most of Sony's media in Northamerica is made in Taiwan and is probably made by Daxon. Even if you get the SONY code, theyre probably made by DAXON as Sony's plant is in Japan afaik but Japanese SOny media is rare in North america. Daxon media is pretty good btw, not GREAT but i would say slightly above average. Daxon's plant is not in malaysia nor is Sonys plant. Sony's plant is in Japan while Daxon's is in Taiwan.

some maxell MIT media is ricohjpn, not all are Ritek. Ricohs plant is in Japan but they allow Ritek to make their media, so Ricoh MIT media is actually made by Ritek (or sometimes CMC) but are far better than their own media. Ricoh media is pretty good but not quite as good as Maxell MIJ media.

japanese media is becoming more and more rare in north america... your best bet of getting japanese media is buying authentic taiyo yuden media from reputable stores. For Canada, i recommend NCIX.com or blankmedia.ca. You might have seen futureshop and bestbuy blowing out a lot of japanese fujifilm DVDR's and Maxell MIJ DVDR's but thats soon going to come to an end (if not already). Maxell is only going to distribute MIJ media to the Japanese market and all the Maxell media coming to NA will be MIT.

I'm pretty sure the Maxell "Pro" DVD-R media will still be MIJ, but those are pretty much only available online.

possibly, i dont know much about Maxell Pro media... Maxell Pro media is pretty rare in Canada (i dont even think they sell Maxell Pro DVDR media here, only CD-R) but it is very good media (so ive heard). I'll stick with my Taiyo Yuden =].

also, i heard Maxell 16x media coming to NA will be MIJ but i dont think thats going to last.

  9. Yeah. You've got to watch Futureshop closely! I went in to one of their stores a couple months ago and saw 100 Kodak DVD-Rs for $59.99. I thought that was a pretty good price and bought 100. The next week the price for the same quantity was $119.99. I thought "Wow! I did really well!". The next week the price was back down to $59.99.

I then saw on their web page an "internet only" ad for 200 Kodak DVD-Rs for $59.99 with free delivery!! I ordered 400 disks and now have more than enough for the next long while.
