  1. I have a Hi-8 analog camcorder and I need to capture the videos using my ATI AIW Radeon.

What is the optimal resolution for capture. Do I capture at 480x480, 640x480 or something else? I do not wish to overdo it, but I want to get the best picture possible.

    Thanks

  2. I use 640x480 on my system. I have a 1 Ghz Duron, with 256 DDR Ram, and 32mDDR AIW-Radeon. The higher capture resolution has in fact made for better VCD's (when I convert down...)

  3. I think Hi8 has an equivelant horizontal res of about 500, but don't quote me. Basically capture at you target res, your cap card wll resize for you anyway and it doesn't do that bad a job.

  4. yep, for getting the best, use any res as high as possible, except for vertical res, there it is no use going beyond vertical pal (or ntsc) res

you can capture at a higher res than your target res if you're plan to do special effects like 'moves', if you're going for direct conversion, use something as close as possible to the destination res
