"DVD writing is a delicate process". Quoted from one of the help files for a Sony burner. Delicate process? Every single time I try to burn a DVD on any one of my 3 computers I get errors becasue burning is a "delicate process", how come I can do everything else on a computer with accuracty and repeatability but DVD burning is a "delicate process"? I need to burn discs more and more often, i already have 3 computers to get all the work done, but I cant work while I am using a DVD burner?
What I want to do is use the burner and other programs at the same time, but somehow this is not possible.

Answer to your question: NO.
Your PC specs look fine for burning and doing other things on your PC. I use my burner and do other things with no issues. I Burn DVD's and at times do the following: Surf the Web, Use DVDShrink, Use authoring software to convert mpg's to DVD. The thing's I don't do while burning is a virus scan, scandisk or defrag, play games or installing any kind of software. The only thing I notice is that if my system is be taxed for resources, the burn will go down to just 4X from my normal 8X. Just my 2 cents. Good question for a first post.

If other things = playing a game = no.
If other things = using web browser = fine.
NEVER OPEN PROGRAMS while burning. Open them BEFORE your burning session.
And your issue may be unrelated, like bad discs.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

It's possible your burning software fails to "lock your drive unit during the burn process" as some other software does.
Also, resist the temptation to switch on cookers, boilers, kettles, central heating, etc while your waiting for the burn to finish. It can put a spike on the mains. -
