  1. I encoded a 58-min. video using TMPEng. It works great. I created chapters and burned an SVCD using Nero 5.5xx, it seemed to work fine but when I play it back on my computer's DVD, I cannot see the menus - though the playback is fine. Then when I try to play it back on a Sony DVD player, it does not recognize the disk at all. Any ideas why?

There is only one or 2 sony's that I have found that will play vcd's with any reliability let alone svcd's, I recently went out to stores with vcd and svcd test disks. I think I found one sony that would play svcd and it was very expensive, and maybe one other sony that would play the vcd. check the dvd player list here and see if your model is listed.

  3. Well..all I can say is that you never know if your dvd-player can play svcd's or not. But if it plays vcd's it might also play svcd's. I got a Samsung 909, and on this page(vcdhelp) in the standalone dvd compatibility section is says that my player CAN'T play svcd's. I also thought so couse I tried to burn svcd's and my player recognized them as video cd 1.1 and the screen was black...no movie. But somehow I tried to burn a svcd with a program called Ulead MovieFactory and suddenly it worked...perfectly. NERO did'nt work but Moviefactory did. The two cd's I created are the same...but with NERO it didnt work...
So try burning with different author-programs.
I think your player can play svcd's.

  4. I forgot one thing.
Instead of using a "MPEG2" directory you have to use "MPEGAV" on the svcd.
let me know how this will work
