  1. I have created an 58-minute SVCD with Nero 5.5. It plays back on my computer DVD program, though without the menus I've created. Can anyone tell me why this is?
Also, it will not play back on a standalone DVD player. I tested it on a Sony DVD player. The player does not recognize the disc. Any suggestions?

Are you sure? In PowerDVD 4.0 I could not even select a 2nd audio track even less any subtitles.

Edit: oops, wrong topic. Yes, PowerDVD 4.0 supports (S)VCD menus.

  7. SONY DVP-NS900V plays VCDs with and without menus (PBC on or off). It seems that there isn't such thing as PBC mode for SVCDs: SVCDs can only be played without menus. I sent a mail to SONY support asking, but no answer so far.

As long as there is no possibility to display menus on SVCDs, I rather burn XVCDs at 702x480 or 720x480 (NTSC - x576 PAL). So I have menus and the player plays the streams perfectly.

PowerDVD 3.0 can also play SVCDs with menus, but the program doesn't like the directory with the MPEG file to be called "MPEG2", "MPEGAV" is ok. The Sony player doesn't care. It plays them all.
