Would anybody please point me to cheap TDK DVD-Rs that can last for a long time? Last time, someone mentioned that Costco in Hawaii was having a sale for two spindles (50 discs total). I'm still using the second spindle right now and I'm afraid of running out. It seems I just missed CompUSA's sale with some Sony DVD-Rs. But I don't know if Sony discs are good or not. It's best that I stick to TDK for now. Anyone know where the sales for this brand are?I haven't seen a sale for it since that one time last year.

And now for my other problem. I've bought a 50-pack DVD+RW from Memorex a long time ago. I've tested other DVD+RW discs from before and it plays fine on my DVD player. But, when I got this Memorex pack, it won't play. I burned DVD data onto two of the discs and when I inserted into the DVD player, it gave me a "No disc" error. And it froze my Windows Explorer window when I tried to open it in Windows 2000. I know it burned successfully because the process took me about 15 minutes. Since I have 50 of them and did not start using them until about several months after the purchase, I doubt there is returns available. Any idea how to solve this problem or maybe a good way to use the discs without wasting my money?![]()

Hey Sakuya.....DAIEI has the TDK DVD-R 8X MEDIA on sale for $9.99 for a 25 pack spindle.....I'm returning a spindle I bought because they're defective....This is the second time in the last few months that the TDK turned out to be a bad batch or something.....I used one spindle and all the back ups I did either could not playback or froze so I'm gonna return the second spindle back to DAIEI....My cousin had the same problem with the TDK she bought last month from COMPUSA....If I were you just purchase one spindle and see if they work for you.....I used the TDK media in all of my dvd burners and the result was the same they all froze or there was no playback....
COMPUSA still has the SONY MEDIA on sale.......I've used the SONY MEDIA but in recent months the media has been crappy.....it's hit or miss......Do yourself a fav and wait for a sale on MAXELL MEDIA at OFFICE DEPOT.....If you get MEMOREX DVD-R 8X you could get media code PRODISCF01 which burns well for my dvd burners..... -
Sony's are good never had a bad one on my burner. They are my second choice for burning when ever I can't get any FUJI made in Japan. But only if they cost $19.99 for a 50pack.

Thanks for the heads up! Daiei sells DVD-Rs?
I never knew that. My Daiei is by the AM/PM (I forgot the name but it's something like that), or the one closest to Ala Moana.
I think I heard TDK has 2 different media codes or something, one bad and one good. Where do I check the media code anyway? -

Download DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find out the exact media code of the discs. -

I have also heard that TKD has good and bad media. The bad ones are not made in the US but somewhere in Asia. Thus I don't trust TDK anymore and won't be risking loosing money with them again. I buy spindle aso I have no way to know where they were made since I don't have a printed case where it says Made in ... the store vendor says they are from the US but obviously they are not.Ana C Costa

Well, the spindle I have have a brand label on it. And they all look the same with the same orange TDK design. In small text, it says made in Taiwan. Are you sure there are some made in the US? I've used one full spindle from Taiwan and they were all good. Hopefully, this new one from Daiei is good, I haven't tested it yet.

Mine said clearly CMC. If your TDKs discs are working well then they must not be CMC. TDK uses over 5 different companies to make their media and since the ones they sell in Brazil (spindle) don't come with a "made in" label... there is no way to know before you buy. I suppose the store owners do see the labels that come in the cake with the discs but they smartly remove those before putting them for sale. I always ask where they are from and the sey that fromn the US !
Since we can't really know for sure where they come from, I won't risk with TDK anymore. The TDKs that are sold in keep case do say Made in Taiwan.Ana C Costa

I've used TDK for a long time ever since I opened this thread and I have always gotten the TTH01 Media ID code as identified here. However for the first time today, I bought a batch (it was on sale at CompUSA) and in DVD Identifier, it says the disc is made by Ritek Corp. The Media ID is RITEKF1 and is rated 2nd Class Media. It also notes on that site: "reflectivity and degradation concerns"
Can anyone care to elaborate on that? Since it's only 2nd class media and someone else paid for me, I'd rather not get them to help me refund it.
Anyway, I feel cheated. They all looked the same so you can't really tell until you take it home. I wish they'd at least label what their Media ID is on their packaging in small text.[/quote]

Thanks, I'll look out for Sony from now on. By the way, what do you guys do with the semi-bad discs that cost you $25 and you can't refund it because it's too late? Such as my old batch of CompUSA DVD+Rs.
