My personal preference is to use EazyVCD. All you need to do is select the correct audio stream (something like DVDDecrypter or smartripper or even IFOEdit can tell you which audio stream is which language).
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. I'm also interested in this but want to take a DVD, rip to (I guess MPEG2 but an open to suggestions) so I can then to edit and then re-compile to DVD again.

I've tried it a couple of times using Xilisoft DVD Ripper but the quality deteriorates and wonder, based on the above, what the software of choice is ?

I'm perfectly happy to trade speed for quality. Any ideas?

  4. Hi and Thx for that; I'd tried using TMPGEnc DVD Author. I've extracted the VOBs into a single MPG but then if I simlpy try reauthor it straight off in TMPGEnc DVD Author (i.e. without messing with the file at all) it says...

*This is an illegal video file

This is an illegal video file.
For DVD-Video you can only use the following video formats:

    MPEG-1 Video, MPEG-2 Video

If i try convert using TMPGEnc Plus it says the file format is unsupported yet MPEG-VCR happily opens it and can use it, and Win Media Player plays it too.

Ideally I'd like to work it using TMPGEnc DVD Author so wondered if you've got any ideas?

  5. Does the VOB have subpictures, multiple audio tracks or DTS audio?
If so use VOBEdit to demux.
In the future I would use DVDDecrypter->IFO mode->Stream Processing->Demux and select the video and one audio track.
If you want DVD->MPEG also try DVDx.
BTW...if you're using DTS audio you should use DVDLab to author and if AC3 you'll need the AC3 plugin for TDA.

  6. Just done that using DVDDecrypter and whilst it works perfect (thx!) when I output to 1 file, it initially defaulted to 1meg segments and when outputted in that way, only the initial file would be accepted by TMPGEnc DVD Author, the other 2 wouldn't; giving the same error as I wrote above.

    Any thoughts?

  7. I forgot to mention:
In DVDDecrypter go to Tools->Settings->IFO Mode tab and set file splitting to none.

  8. Cheers - I worked that one out

Seems to be working well. Now for the icing on the cake... is there any way of retaining the caapter marks?

I'm going to trawl through the help docs later today but wondered if it's possible.

If you've still got the VOBs and IFOs, chapterXtractor can pull out all the chapter points into a text file - I think the best format is the IFOEdit preset from memory.

... either that or when ripping with DVDDecrypter, I'm certain there's a tickbox in the settings to write a chapter file. I can't remember exactly how DVDDecrypter refers to it or what it actually calls it, but I know it can do it.
    If in doubt, Google it.
