    Hi Joshan,

I had several problems with my AMD Athlon 1.2G due to CPU heat. I got the problems using tmpgec because it uses the CPU almost 100%. Try to get Motherboard Monitor to check your cpu temperature.

    Regards,

    Jose

  3. Try putting the CPU back to it's original 900mhz and see how things work first, it may look to work great at 1000, but it's the small things that will kill you

  4. Have you tried running them without overclocking? Just a thought..

I have a Duron 800 and have no problems - but I haven't gotten around to overclocking it yet.

Jfebus is right as well, the Athlon/Duron run very hot - its imperative you have proper cooling, which I'm sure you do. One other thing I've found beneficial is CPUIdle - http://www.cpuidle.de - there are specific K7 settings, and they make a huge difference in temperature. It won't be of much help while you're encoding, as the CPU will not be idle, but its definitely worth having - and also as said before, get MotherboardMonitor - mbm.livewiredev.com - CPUIdle is designed to work with it as well.

I don't think the problem is with the processor, sounds like a memory problem or a problem when writing to the hard drive, this could be caused by another program interfering with the process, or maybe a bad memory chip. Try closing down all other running programs, the best way to do that is run msconfig and uncheck all the programs under the startup tab, if the program runs ok, then add the checks back in untill you find the one that is causing the problem, if it is a bad memory chip there are programs the will test your memory, or you could try swapping dimms, encoding is a very processor heavy process, so any kind of conflict or memory problem is bound to show up.

  7. joshan, this has nothing to do with CPU, this could be your RAM as sommersby mentioned, and it can also be your Installation of Windows, although it's more likely to be the RAM, i'd check if it's connected properly, or even switch a Bank location, that can help on some mainboards.
