    Just wondering if anyone can help,
    I've tried converting 2 avi files to mpeg2 using Mainconcept MPEG encoder, DIKO, avi2dvd and tmpgenc and the output file is always out of sync. I've tried ripping the audio to a seperate file and join them but still come up short.

    Any ideas will be appreciated.

    What is the original framerate of your file? If it's 23.976, you have to include the 3:2 pulldown flag when encoding to MPEG-2 at 29.97. Not including it can cause the out-of-sync problem.

  3. This is not completely true as the video with or without the 3:2 flag will have the same duration as the audio.
    @m2x
    Demultiplex the video and audio with TMPG-MPEGTools-simle demultiplexing and look the duration of video and audio files if it is the same. I suspect mp3 VBR in avi - if it is the case, do audio and video separately. If you don't know how - look for the guides to read how.

    If you posted relevant info about the troublesome AVI (use GSpot!) It'd be easier to guide you in the right direction. Also, more specifics on how the sync problem shows itself would be nice. Like "OK at the start, gradually worse and worse", "equally bad from start to finish", "good to start with, suddenly bad"...

    The framerate is 23.976 and the audio is AC3 5.1 and at a constant bitrate.
    I'm just gonna try the 3:2 pulldown.
    Thanks for the quick replies.

    If your ultimate goal is Video DVD, demux the audio first (VirtualDub) and encode video only. Then ad video + original audio at the authoring stage.
    ...and hold back in that sig image!
