  1. I am trying to encode an Anime DVD to AVI (Xvid with AC3)

Problem: Final output video is 19.181 fps....but everything is in sync and plays fine.

Source: Region 1 DVD, DVD2AVI reports that it is PROGRESSIVE, >95% FILM, and at 24.976 fps.

I used Forced Film. And after doing all the AVIsynth scripts and opening it up in VirtualDubMod, it reports fps as 19.181. Should I change the framerate in VirtualDubMod to 29.97 or 24.976? Or how do I correct this "error" if this IS indeed an error?

I read in this forum on another thread that "If you apply a FF to a 23.976fps video, you will get a resulting fps of 19.181fps." but I don't know what to do to fix that.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If it is anime then it is quite possible that it is a mix of different matrial, some progressive film some interlaced NTSC and some progressive CGI content at 30fps.

  3. Try again without Force film. 24.976 - looks like 25 fps Are you sure it is not a PAL DVD?
And you are better to use DGIndex.

  4. You applied IVTC after using Force FILM in DVD2AVI. Do one or the other but not both.

It was 23.976fps, and not 24.976fps.

How do you fix it? Look around in your .avs and find the Decomb LoadPlugin, and further down, the Telecide/Decimate lines and remove them. How did you generate the .avs? From GKnot? It uses Decomb. Or there could possibly be other IVTCs in the .avs, such as SmartDecimate or TIVTC. If you have any problems deciding what to do, post the .avs.

but everything is in sync and plays fine.

    No, it plays jerky.

Should I change the framerate in VirtualDubMod to 29.97 or 24.976?

    No.

  5. Actually, I am using DGIndex but I'm just used to calling it DVD2AVI. =P

Anyway, I did not use Force Film this time and kept my self-written scripts in AviSynth which included Decomb, Telecide, and Decimate. It works now, and you're right mamono, the 19.181 fps one was indeed jerky.

I guess DGIndex's Force Film and those AviSynth scripts are doing the same thing twice.

Thanks to all who replied for the quick response. =D
