Got an error message when I tryied to burn an image file to dvd 9 dual layer in Nero 6.6
"Write error
_NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A\H1 T0
Could not perform end of Disc-at-once
Burn process failed at 2.4x (3_324 KB/s)"
Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it the disc or the dvd burner that has gone wild?
The disc was a Traxdata+R DL 2.4. The DVD burner is a Nec ND-3520A with crackad firmware from Liggy and Dee at cdfreaks.com. I'm really pissed off! Does it have to do with the firmware?
The log file goes something like this:

I've heard of differnet problems burning with nero. Perhaps try another Buring Program. I've used copytdvd to make a dvd+r DL and it came out fine.

Dual layer burning is still so risky (because so few are doing it, due to the cost of the media), that there is probably no one who can definitively tell you where the problem is...
I do know this, from what I have read:
-Nero has caused a LOT of problems for many who try to use it with dual layer burns. It offers options, some of which can cause confusion. Where to put the layer break? Should Nero calculate this? If YOU calculate it, you need to know the rules of layer breaks. But, Nero has settings to let YOU place it, even if you have told Nero to determine this... OUCH! You can actually end up with 2 layer breaks... a big problem. Quite a few have.
-Media matters, at least as much as it does for single layer DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs, perhaps even more. The early verdict -- quite a few are swearing that only Verbatim is working, for their dual layer burners, and on their (supposedly) compatible DVD standalones. I have had 100% success with Verbatim. I have also had 100% success with Ridata, but some have not. I have heard a LOT of complaints about the other better-known dual layer brands that are available (and there are not very many!) Of course, one never knows how many problems were due to OTHER issues, but I continue to read about problems with other media. I have seen NO reports of the media you mentioned (Traxdata dual layer). No "good" reports, no "bad" reports. Not one. Yours is the first report I have seen of anyone using this name -- Traxdata -- for dual layer.
-I cannot comment on whether the firmware is an issue, since I have no knowledge of this player, nor this firmware.
-DVDDecrypter seems to be the safest way to go, assuming you are just trying to make a perfect one-to-one backup of a commercial DVD that you own. You must use the latest DVDDecrypter. You must use ISO mode, to read. Then, you must use ISO mode, to write. This works, as widely reported. I have yet to read any legit reports of people who found it did not work... (the only two I recall finally realized they needed to upgrade to the latest version). There are a few other solutions, too. I used the above procedure, now, 20 times, with success, using Vernatim or Ridata, on a Pioneer external DVD burner (using a USB connection).

It usually is a combination of burner and media, but usually the media is the problem.
If you want to know for sure, download KProbe (can be found on videohelp.com) and have it check out your freshly burned DVD. Not entirely sure if it also can scan a DVD that has not been finished, but it can't hurt to try. If you check the number of PI and PO errors and they start to go well beyond 280 PI or PO (check the documentation) and just keep rising, then I can tell you that it is a very bad burn.
My advice is, try and burn a Verbatim DL first, my experience with them is superb, even in a Sony DVD burner (which has a very bad track record for error correction). KProbe showed me nearly no PI/PO errors, which I have only ever seen on Tayo Yuden DVDs/CDs.
Good luck.[/quote] -
yep, thats what you get for using nero, next time use dvddecrypter because nero blows donkey balls now.

>>>>I have to disagree with you there. Dual Layer works fine, as long as you use proper (but expensive) media.<<<<<
Uh, with all due respect, we must agree to disagree. As I stated, media matters, but so does the choice of sofware, and the other issues I discussed. It is still (obviously) a risky endeavor, as can be easily witnessed by the many coasters you can read about over in this thread, including the ones where Verbatim dual layer discs were being used:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=225001&highlight=layer+change
Note that this thread was begun June 9, 2004, and continues into March of this year. Note the number of people who WERE using quality media, but ended up with two layer breaks, or discs which would play up until the layer break, and then quit.
We must agree to disagree. I stand by my original post.
Have a good day,

and the outcome seems to be dvddecrypter is the best way of maintaining a decent backup of a dual layer original, onto a dual layer blank, with the layer break still intact, whereas nero blows donkey balls at its attempts.
