Sorry for such a newbie question..but I am a newbie and this has been bugging me...

One movie is an 700 meg Xvid (avi) - when I use SVCD2DVD I get a good quality 4.3 gig DVD.

Now - if that same movie is in SVCD format, its now 1.5 gig, and made up of usually 2 bin files - I run through SVCD2DVD and it extracts the mpg files and creates my DVD for me - the resulting DVD is about 1.5 gig (pretty much the same size as the original SVCD)and the DVD quality is terrible.

So am I to conclude the 700 meg Xvid/avi makes a much nicer DVD than a 1.5 gig SVCD?

Thanks for any and all responses....

  2. This is because the SVCD video files are left untouched except for audio conversion and inserting NAV packs. This is by design in the program. If you re-encode the SVCD file you are going to noticeably lose quality.

The XVID file is re-encoded to DVD (higher) bitrates and resolution and will (usually, depending on the original quality) look better than an SVCD.
