I'm converting 26 VOBs to MP4s for an open source project (using MPEG4 [.MP4] (ffmpeg) codec). All the VOBs converted except for two. When I hit Encode on these files, the Progress window comes up and it finishes the encoding instantly (the originals are +- 465MB files). The window reports Finished (not Failed). The output file is a Zero KB file.

This is strange as I am using the same preset for all the files, and the others work fine.
The two VOBs in question don't seem any different than the others - they play fine in MPlayer.

Here's what the Info button on the progress window gives:

Encoding started on Tue Mar 29 14:48:09 SAST 2005
    Input #0, mpeg, from '/Users/admin/Documents/go_open/Episodes/Episode2/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_2.VOB':
    Duration: 00:07:28.7, start: 987.495000, bitrate: 8693 kb/s
    Stream #0.0: Audio: pcm_s16be, 48000 Hz, stereo, 1536 kb/s
    Stream #0.1: Video: mpeg2video, 720x576, 25.00 fps
Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.0

I tried (as an experiment) other codecs on these two VOBs. Xvid [.AVI] (mencoder) succesfully encoded the VOB. Where as Xvid [.AVI] (ffmpeg) results in the problem behaviour. It seems that any "(ffmpeg)" labelled codec produce the unsuccesful results described above.

The only related topic I can find in the forum is:
Stopped working all of sudden (VOB to .MOV)

I would much appreciate help with this problem. Thanks!

  2. I believe your problem is simply the inverted streams. Try turning ON "Invert Mapping" in the audio tab after having selected your preferred preset and settings.

Inverted meaning, most often the video is in #0.0 so FFMPEGx is trying to treat the audio as video and it fails.

    Stream #0.0: Audio
    Stream #0.1: Video

    Cheers,
    Alph
