A number of forum threads have discussed the issue of the ilo hard drive use, the format, and upgrade to a larger drive.

    Some opinions
    1. The HDD in the ilo can be taken to a PC to read the files.
    2. The HDD format is FAT32. [The prevailing opinion] or is it NTFS. both without partitions
    3. Any HDD so configured will work
    4. If the HDD is over 80gb the ilo will only format to 80gb
    5. The Erase function will format the drive

The ilo drive is a Seagate configured for cable select. It also has jumpers for master or slave. There is a jumper to limit the drive to 32 gb. It is an ATA with an IDE interface. You can only find the drive by serial number. There are no specifics given. The firmware and what little info is given would indicate that it is a specific purpose drive.
I connected the ilo drive to a FAT32 PC and it would not recognize the drive as a master, a slave or cable direct. I could not access the drive even in straight DOS with FAT32. As a result I could not even look at the drive with FAT32 much less format it. I am not intrested in a larger drive but putting the drive on a PC to read and tradsfer files would be an avantage.
I took an 80gb HDD, formatted with FAT32 and no partitions placed it in the ilo and did the erase function. The indicator went to 98% than failed. I put everything back the way it was and the ilo works fine. [It did not seem to care if cofigured as a master, slave or csble select] The 80gb FAT32 drive was OK but had to be reformatted for FAT32. So what is a possible answer. If the ilo drive is FAT32 why wouldn't the PC recognize it. As I stated if I’m doing something wrong tell me. I have not received an answer except format the drive with FAT32 and remove the partitions. Gezz !!! There are no partitions unless you partition it. For me the ilo is fine as is. I guess I would just like to know. [Guitarman] [ANYBODY]

  3. Go Here for info on a HDD mod and how to format the drive. While there, check out the DVD Recorder forum. A lot of us ILO folk hang out there. You can gain a lot of info.

  5. its strange your having trouble reading the drive..

if you click my computer it should show LITEONFAT as the HDD in the ilo on the pc..

i had trouble copying the files to the HDD but it was easily fixed by backing up the entire drive..

i used the built drive backup software in win2000.. i am pretty sure the same backup software is built into XP too..

good luck on replacing the HDD or upgrading it took me every bit of 10 minutes to do it..

the ILO works great and its faster than it was before!!

The computer OS is Win 98SE FAT32
I can read the drive. THE DRIVE IS FULL It works fine on the ilo. [My computer] lists the drive as LITEONFAT. Disk capacity 74gb -- Used 0 -- Avalable 74gb.

    Fdisk Reports
PRI DOS, LITEONFAT, Mbytes 10758 FAT32
USAGE 100% Total disk Space 504 Mbytes.

The disk info indicates the disk is empty when it is not. I do not show a VOB file amd can not transfer some files. The fdisk info is not in keeping with the capacity of the drive. I'm using Win 98SE FAT32 and there should be no problem. I gather you are using XP with NTFS and are unot having a problem. If so, while I'll lose some programs. I will change over
