Hiee!
I have an opportunity to purchase a projector, but want to run it by the guys on this board to see what you all think. Don’t know if it’s a good projector.
A friend of mine told me she’d sell me her Projector. It’s an:
InFocus LP755
See: http://www.projectorcentral.com/InFocus-LP755.htm
She wants to sell it to me for: $600.00 / US
What I want to use it for:
- I host a variety Show at a bar every week in my city
- Hook my laptop up to it and play internet videos to my audience
- Play DVD through it (for my audience and my own personal use)
- Use it as a live Camera (not to record, just to view – so the audience can see themselves during the show)
What do you guys think?
Any help would be great! Thanks so much!

I'm not familiar with that particular projector, but it's sounds like a good deal. I see the replacement bulb listed between $480 - $600 US, so you have to consider that. That may be the normal price for that type of projector bulb.
Have you tried a Google search for the projector? You should find some reviews and other info that may be useful. -
This review is over 5 years old. It says it's pretty good, but how old is the projector itself and its lamp? I dunno...
It might be worth getting a new one with a new lamp.
The BenQ PB6100 seems in favor these days. You might be able to get it for close to the same price. -
If you have to buy a new lamp, you will end up paying $1000 for an obsolete model. Around $1000 I bought the entry level model (infocus 4805) that is DLP and came with 30' svideo cable and a big screen. It is 16x9 and Hi Def. I am satisfied with it and low resolution movies look like theater screen still good. Consider price for cables you need and the screen. Your projector apparently does not have keystone correction and placement would be very critical otherwise picture would not look square.

Hi.
Thanks for the information…really helpful
redwudz, p_l and INFRATOM, thanks. BTW, redwudz, I did a few google searches and found some helpful reviews!
Consider price for cables you need...
I’ll check back shorty guys.

I also own the InFocus 4805, and while it is an outstanding EDTV projector (resolution is 852 x 480) it is not a HD projector. It does display HD signals downconverted to its native resolution, but it does not display true HD resolution. Just want to add that, I personally recommend the 4805. -
Hi guys.

Is an HD Projector something I may need according to what I’m using the Projector for:

See ya! Bye.

From the specs at 'Projector Central' for the unit you are looking at :Compatibility: HDTV: 1080i. That sounds like HDTV to me.
HDTV is probably not something you really need for what you plan to use the unit for. If your laptop does not have HDTV out, (Few have) you should be fine. Truthfully, if you want to save $ you can just get a projector set up for video presentation with a computer. I wouldn't recommend it though. It's nice to keep your options open.
I would get a projector that will do computer video and some level of HDTV. You never know when you might want to use it for home theater.
AFAIK, that unit would do that.
It doesn't hurt to shop for some newer units, though. They have come down in price and up in features as home theater has become more popular. My projector is 800x600, at little low in resolution, but I like it. Cost was about $1400 US a few years ago. The newer projectors are mostly XGA, 1024x768. I will live with mine a few more years, though.
I think for your use, you primarily need high brightness for output. A quality video screen is also an important item. You also want to check on the projected size VS the distance to the screen and the size of the screen. Sites like Projector Central have calculators to figure out that problem.
Read and study. -
Jenny,
For what you are looking to do, either choice (the LP755 or the 4805) would be fine. One thing to look for, CONNECTIONS. Make sure the projector you pick has preferably Component inputs, and S-video and rca inputs.
The 4805 can display HDTV signals, but NOT at High Def resolution. The signal would be downconverted to the projectors native resolution (480p). It would still look stellar though. The 4805 is 1080i and 720p compatible but the vertical resolution has to at least exceed 720 pixels to do true High Definition (again, the 4805's vertical is 480).
Check out hometheaterforum.com for more info on projectors and the like.
That being said, I love my 4805, great picture (84 inch screenin my living room), natural vivid colors... [/i]
