Cool. I do need a little help. I don't own Tmpgenc, and the free version doesn't do mpeg2. Do I really need it? I'm trying to convert Pal dvd movie (720x576, 16x9 aspect) to Ntsc dvd. I can't tell from mediainfo if it's interleaved or not.

You have to use mpg2.Might want to look for a free mpeg2 encoder that will do the same job.Not sure of the choices.

HCenc is an excellent freeware encoder. I've been playing around with it for a while now (last month or two) because I was looking for a freeware MPEG-2 DVD spec encoder so I could write a guide for PAL DVD to NTSC DVD conversion.

I've already written one full guide (using TMPGEnc Plus) and many "mini-guides" explaining how to do it with AviSynth and TMPGEnc Plus or CCE but it's hard to be 100% exact since everyone has a different encoder and despite trying to make my TMPGEnc Plus guide as specific as possible apparently some people still have issues (and as for myself TMPGEnc Plus is not my favorite encoder).

I suggest you look my guide up in the guides section. Even if you don't use TMPGEnc Plus it is rather specific on other points of the procedure plus I have links to other guides using AviSynth and if you want to use HCEnc you will have to use AviSynth.
