  3. I am looking forward to any input too.... I am also locking up at 36% with DVDShrink and getting IO errors with Decryptor.

This seems to be too much of a coincidence. Has someone come up with a new fix to prevent backup?

  4. holy crap i did it... and it only took me 2 hours to figure it out. it's called a blank bad sector protection. what is does is when reading it on a computer it times out cause it reads a blank sector and can't read past it. thus stoping at 34% on decrypter. other movies like forgotten and little black book had the same thing but on spanglish it had a ccs protection right where it has it blank sector. so dvd decrpter can't decode the ccs cause it can't get to it. there is a program called anydvd that takes out the ccs on dvd's. so what u do is first start anydvd. then insert spanglish in dvd rom. the it will take out the ccs (u'll see a window come up.) then u need vodblanker to blank out the blank sector. once it does that u can copy it to a dvd.
    good luck!!!

Old news. Its the new Sony protection. Some can beat with the newest decrypter others may require the latest Anydvd or a combination of both. Lots of movies now have it. Its a few months old.

My we have some folks still in the closet. First step: Look at the fine print on the label. See what studio put it out. Second step: Ohe well you get my point. Read and you will suceed!

Why does it seem like every day we get 3 or 4 of these I can't rip my dvd? Does anyone actually search on their own anymore?

  12. Most people probably only mess with this stuff when the new movies come out and don't live here 7 days a week or spend anywhere near as much time doing this stuff as a lot of people here do.

I have all the latest tools (DVDdecrypter, dvdshrink, anydvd) and I still cannot make a backup of Spanglish.

After several attempts using different settings in DVDdecrypter and ANYdvd, I was able to copy all the files over to my hard drive. The offending file was 4.VOB in the main movie.

But now I still can't get dvdshrink to re-encode it to a single DVD-R size, or even to back it up as a split file (over 2 DVD-R). I keep getting errors.

DVDRB will not copy the disc.

I'm currently taking a final stab with CloneAD356.

    Any other ideas anyone?

I used DVDdecypter both with and without Anydvd.

    I used DVDRB 80.

    Nothing worked.

    I'll try VOBblanker next.

OK. Time for my next stupid question:

I used the hard-drive copy of the the DVD, launched VOBblanker and tried to prcess the main movie. It failed with an out of sync error in cell VID 2 / CID 23.
So I blanked out that cell and the process went through fine. I was able to then use DVDshrink to create a fresh set of burnable files.

However: the cell I blanked, was lited as 4 minutes and 39 seconds.
Won't I have deleted a chunk of the movie this way?

I just answered my own question by burning what I had. It's missing the 4 minutes 39 seconds of movie in a crucial scene. Back to the drawing board.....

I have the latest AnyDVD and DVDshrink. If I luanch Anydvd, then insert the disc in the drive, then launch DVDshrink, the application (DVDshrink) locks up and stops responding as soon as I click 'Open Disc'

Please share with us the steps and settings you are using.

    1 Started ANYDvd 4-6-3-1
2 Loaded disk and played it a couple of seconds ( not really needed but,,,)
3 Launched DVDShrink, located the movie /drive ;etter and clicked it.
    4 Analyzed it.
    5 Reauthored / Movie only
6 Backed up to ISO and burned w/decrypter.

    That's it

If that does not work for you then the disk itself has a problem.
Without ANY DVD running it will stop analyzing as soon as it hits the blank area before the movie . That is the "Bad" area they have inserted to keep you from copying it with regular rippers. Others here can explain that more technically. Running ANYDvd with thwart that and the analysis will proceed as normally as will the ripping.

Thanks all for the feedback. I think the disc may be bad. My error is 75% through the movie, in the scene where Adam Sandler drives home late at night and has the heart to heart with his wife who can't stop crying.

I'll change the disc and try again.

Yeah, it should have locked up just before the actual movie begins during analysis asuming you were trying to rip as normal without the latest progs to remove the new protection.

  24. This all sounds very similar to some experiences I had with a different movie (Flight of the Phoenix). Consider the possibility that the manufacturers are purposely putting out defective dvd's that computers have trouble reading and ripping and dvd players show some video artifacts but keep going, which they hope most consumers will just live with. Return them all as defective and demand your money back.

  25. I think you need the new version of AnyDVD. I have 4.5 and am going to try and DL 4.6 and see if that works (since someone else says it did). But for 4.5, I get cyclic redundancy...

  26. Didn't need anything extra here... Just ripped with latest DVD Decrypter, reauthored with DVD Shrink, then burned with Nero.

I was able to backup the second copy os Spanglish, but it was not as easy as some in this thread would suggest.

I had to use DVDDecrypter and ANYdvd 4.6 to rip to the hard drive.
Then, DVDshrink still would not reauthor the files, so I had to use VOBblanker2001 to process the movie only. After that, DVDshrink would finally reauthor the files to a burnable VIDEO_TS folder.

    That was painful!
