  1. I have a few Divx movie files that are ntsc that have a fps of 23.976 i have been converting these to a pal dvd using winavi but i have noticed that there is noticable skipping.
After reading these forums i have learnt that you have to convert the video file into a pal 25 fps format before converting it to a pal dvd to eliminate the skipping ( i hope im on the right track i am new to all this video conversion ).
If i am correct can someone please tell me what software converts the video file to pal 25fps before converting it to dvd.

Also does anyone know of a good web site that tells you about the various frame rates and video resolutions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Look at What is DVD (to your left at the top) to see allowable frame sizes and rates for DVD.

As to NTSC to PAL conversion - check your player first. If it plays NTSC (as the majority of PAL players do) you will get the best quality encoding at 23.976 with pulldown (use dgpulldown to add the flags). There are very few programs that will give you a reasonable result doing format conversion. The best I can think of is Procoder.

Personally, I leave mine NTSC, as it is never worth the effort. (And yes, I'm in PAL land)

  4. ok i use tmpeg to creat my dvd mpgs,

firstly use it wizard to make a pal mpg, then, before enc, go to the settings & unlock the frame rate & set it too 23.976fps & encode as seperate video & audio files...

then get a hold of the free ware DGPulldown, and convert the video file into 25 fps. thats it, i burn using TDA, using the new 25fps m2v & audio file......

works fine on my sony ns400d!!!!! 8)

DGPulldown doesn't actually convert video to 25fps, it just adds flags to look like it is. It might not be a universal fix.

    1) Extract audio to wav.
    2) Change AVI framerate to 25 fps using AVIFrate
    3) Make wav "shorter" (23.976/25) using Goldwave TimeWarp, or wavworks.
    4) Encode AVI as video source, wav as audio source to PAL specs mpg.
