  1. I want to be able to use my own settings when encoding to a Windows Media Video file (WMV) instead of using the preset defaults. I tried using Windows Movie Maker, Pinnacle Studio and Adobe Premier but they all have preset conversions. I want to be able to choose my own video and audio bitrate, resolution and FPS. Is this possible? Do I need a special codec to do this? Please let me know thanks.

    Take a look here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/expert/customprofile.mspx

There may be some other info if you look around the site a little. WMM is kind of limited, though easy to use.

Windows media encoder 9 is free and highly configurable.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

It will capture most formats directly.
