  1. i have an old compaq presario 5002us pc.

when purchased back in 2001, it was this:

    amd duron 800mhz
    64mb sdram
    40gb hard drive
    motherboard manufacturor:FIC AZ31 - (Compaq UWAVE)
    motherboard chipset: VIA Technologies KT133
    8mb nvidia vanta LT

in 2002, i added 256mb of sdram, and added a liteon 411s dvdrw drive, and installed windows xp professional.

up until now, it's still running fine, never freezes, plays counterstrike perfectly.

now, the question is, can i upgrade it into today's gaming computers by changing the motherboard, processor, hard drive, power supply, video card, and ddr ram?

specifically, would this be all i need to replace the stuff in the compaq?:

dont waste your money. you're basically buying a new computer anyways, why not just have a second working computer?

  3. New computers nowadays are power hungry and I believe that the PSU in your current computer just does not cut it. Better to get everything new.

I see one major problem. You have a XP 64 939 Motherboard and a Athlon 3200+ Socket A processor. You might want to change that to an Athlon 64 3200 Socket 939 processor. (Winchester core version suggested.)

This appears to be the right #: N82e16819103500. About $39 US more.

Anyway, You might as well buy a new case to go with all those new parts. Use your Optical and hard drives and that's about all. Or just start from scratch and build it all.

  7. All you can do to your current system and not deal with the motherboard, PSU, and case. You can put a 1300 AMD Duron Processor in, thats the last one they built with a 200/100 fsb ( you will need a new copper heatsink, also update BIOS to newest)

Upgrade the memory with a PC100/133 512MB stick.

Upgrade the HDD with a IDE 7200 RPM HD the size (pref larger) is your choice.

VideoCard: laugh... the good ones wont work in your system.

I would rather go with a new computer as stated by others.
