  1. I want to convert some of my AVI files to VCD so I can watch them in my dvd player connected to my tv. I can only make VCD's because I don't have a DVD-Burner.

I've tried MainConcept MPEG Encoder and a couple other programs that I don't remember because I uninstalled them.

After the encoding process is complete, since the file is to big for it to fit on a CD-R, I used TMPGEnc Plus - MPEG Tools to split the file. I tried to use Nero 6 to make the VCD, but it said:
"The Video File '...*.mpg' is not Video CD compliant. The video will be re-encoded to Video CD format before burning."

I also tried to use Aurora VCD_SVCD_DVD Creator, but that did the same thing.

There's nothing wrong with the AVI files, I used GSpot to check them out. They were all perfect. I also checked out the MPEG files, and there wasn't anything wrong with them. And after I split the file, GSpot had all the exact info it did before I split it (well except for the size and length were different).

I would just let Nero encode the file for me before it burned it, but it's not my computer. My computer doesn't have a burner in it, so I sent it via LAN to the computer that does, and theres almost always someone on it, and I've heard that Nero doesn't really do a good job in encoding files.

Is there a really good program out there that will just convert the avi files to VCD(mpg)? and then burn them with NO problems??

Nero sucks, you can turn off the "make compliant" setting and tell it to burn as-is. Otherwise try authoring it with VCDEasy instead, an older version is free.

TMPGEnc will encode VCD's (mpeg1) for free.

TMPGEnc. Probably the best mpeg1 encoder there is.
Use VCDEasy to author and burn.
