Lordsmurf, you seem to agree, that "burned DVDs wearing out" is possible with the combination bad media and paper labels. So can't it in your opinion be, that the same effect happens with bad media, if you have a white printable top plastic layer instead of a paper label?

The playback problem with paper labels seem to be not imbalance, but perhaps disk warping, leading to bad laser focussing, see:
