I have an older capture card, so I just capture at 352x480 using PowerVCRII. I'm putting together a bunch of episodes of a series, and there was one I missed. I got a copy of it from someone else who's doing the same thing.

But his VOB file is at 704x480. I'm trying to put a bunch of episodes on one DVD-R, using TMPGEnc DVD Author. I put my episodes on at 352x480, and then when I try to add the 704x480 episode, TDA complains and says everything has to be the same resolution.

So what can I use among the tools I have (I also have TMPGEnc and PowerDVD) to convert the 704x480 VOB file down to 352x480? I'm a cheapskate, so I don't want to have to buy something new.

    Thanks!

  2. I'm pretty sure you can add differing resolutions if you create a new track rather than adding all the clips to the same track.

You can add additional tracks in the 'Source Setup' step of TMPEGEnc DVD Author, on the left hand side.

Do a quick author of just this VOB, no menus, to your HDD. Load this into DVD Rebuilder, and choose the half-D1 output option. Process, then use the resulting VOB in your compilation.

You can mix different resolutions/video sizes, just add a new track for each in tmpgenc dvd author as steve says.

Thanks! Where do I choose that option? (I just downloaded DVDRebuilder 0.79 freeware, and it shows "Half-D1 and Half Space for extras" under Mode. Is that it?)

(I also downloaded QUEnc, and I think I set up DVD Rebuilder OK for it, but in the Encode phase I get "ERROR: File V01000000001001 shows completed, but no .M2V file exists." What's up with that?)

  6. Nothing against guns1inger's suggestion, but DON'T go that route unless you need to, which you don't as Baldrick and I suggested. Using DVDRB to change the resolution will only lower the quality of your video(s) as you'll be re-encoding it, not to mention the amount of time spent encoding the video when you can just add a new track.

Adding a new track also has the advantage of being less of a hassle if you want to do further editing/authoring later on.
