Can anyone help with a firmware upgrade? I purchased a LaCie
Dual Layer 16X recorder, which is actually a NEC ND-3520A with
    formware 1.04

I cant get the drive to burn at more than 4X, and cant find any
newer firmware, even though some units have shipped with 1.06,
and I have read of folks using an official NEC firmware of 1.07

    Nothing on the NEC site.

    thanks,

    Win

    Check this web site
    The Dangerous Brothers
    http://tdb.rpc1.org/

I have a 3500 and it burns up to 16x with good media.
What media are you using?? Also make sure you have DMA turned on

OK, Trock....on the first site link i dont see the LaCie drive listed, I only see the following: Nec, Maddog, I.O. Data, and Memorex. Looks like the 1.26 you mention is for the I.O. Data unit.

Media wise, i've tried TDK, Fujifilm, and Ritek. All are
maxing out at 4X with Dvd Decrypter.

Make sure you are not using TDK 8x -R media. NEC "officially" rates these at 4x and they should. Trying to burn this media at higher speeds on some burners produced coasters.

Buy a Verbatim 8x +R and -R media. Try these. If they burn at the rated speed then you should not pursue the f/w issue further.

The DMA setting is rather difficult to slow burning speed to 4x. If your RW driver was on PIO mode it would top off at 2x, so the most suspect thing is the media.

Also, can you provide info on what burning s/w you are using? If Nero, are you using at least 6.6.0.3 or higher?
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

1.04 is the latest official ND-3520A firmware. Mine burns Ritek G05 at 8x, CMC MAG AE1 at 8x and Verbatim Pastel (TYG02) at 12x even though they are only supposed to be 8x media.

Richard, thanks for the info. I was told by others,
on a different forum that 1.07 was the latest 'official'
firmware, hence my search. Obviously i was misinformed,
and will check out the media you speak of.
