  1. Hello. Long time visitor to the site, first time poster.

I can usually find everything I need w/the search function, but I have a question that I haven't found asked before.

I am wondering how to enable the USB port on my DVR 522 so I can set it up in my network and transfer my files to my PC.

    Thanks!

  2. I have the same unit. It can't be done. At least, not yet. That usb port is available for future applications. The only thing that really has been successful in this port is a usb keyboard. Some people on the net have reported using it for navigating the menus, typing in search entries, and the like. Sorry to burst your bubble. In the meantime, let's both keep our finger's crossed, and hope that Dish gets smart, and makes these sort of things possible.

  3. Okay, so the only way of transfering files to PC would be by removing the HDD? Either that or a video card, but I don't want to lose quality capturing w/a video card.

Do you have any other suggestions that you've used?

    TIA

  4. I don't think you will have success with removing the hardrive either, since everything I've read about these things say that the files are encrypted. I have used my ATI capture card to do realtime caprtures, with prett good success. However, my current way of doing it, is with a DVD recorder. I bought an ILO DVDR04, at Walmart, for $138, and have had great success with it. I would try that. Then, if you want to do any further editing of the content, you could rip the DVD to your pc, and finish your editing there, and even do some nice DVD authoring, too. That's what I plan to do, in the future, but my PC is out of commision, right now. I have been quite happy with the quality of the DVDs I have burnt with the ILO, PLUS you can do it from the comfort of your couch. Might be worth looking into, for you.
