I'm not so sure it is a problem with the machine. From everything you've said so far, I think all of these symptoms could be from electrical noise getting into the IR receiving circuitry inside of the machine. If this noise is constantly making the machine think your pressing buttons on the remote, it could produce the symptoms you've explained.

See my post from 2 or 3 posts back.

Well Liteon finally got back to me this afternoon and asked me if I could take the recorder round to my daughters and see if it ran OK on her machine and to try some recordings, and report back

It worked perfectly it recorded and played back without fault and the cursor was very stable.

When I reported back to Liteon they said obviously there is nothing wrong with the machine its just incompatible with the TV I am using and there is nothing more they can do?

Is anyone else using the Liteon 5005 with a Toshiba 46WM48?

"You may be able to eliminate all of your problems by using an inexpensive choke kit that will eliminate a lot of this noise. There are many different manufacturers of these kits. I think you may be able to get one from Radio Shack. Here is a link to one manufacturer that sells these devices."

How many of these would I need and which wires would you fit them to?

You should only have to buy 1 package. They come supplied with 4 chokes per package. Here is a picture of what the chokes look like.

You would need 1 choke for each of the connecting cables from the TV to the recorder. One for the video and one each for right and left channels of audio. The manual That comes with the kit shows how to loop the cables through the chokes. There is a pdf manual that you can download from their site, but it is a scanned image of the manual and it is very hard to read. You can download the pdf manual here.

Thanks for that I will look into it

I have found the best place to site the Liteon is on the top shelf of my unit directly under the lamphouse of the TV in this position the faults are less severe anywhere else and the machine just goes crazy
