  1. I've had to renstall a new PC.
I need to get some codecs installed.
Can someone tell me where I can get 'safe' codecs?
I've heard soo much about codecs with malicious software in.

    Thanks.

I think a number of codecs without the spyware/adware costs. There are the pro versions of the software.

  4. Exactly why is it NOT recommended to install codec packages?? Is it solely b/c of spy- and adwares?? If so, couldn't you just run spy/adware removal app after installing?

No, the codec packs don't have spyware.

However, they were assembled by retarded warez monkeys, so they often set up bad associations and line up the codecs/filters in a lousy order such that it's impossible after a while to get ANYTHING to play back properly.

If add/remove programs is not an option, you can open control panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware tab -> select Video Codecs (or Audio Codecs) -> properties button

That will show you what you have installed. Be careful of what you remove. I would advise removing something only if you know exactly what it is.
