Problems with .wav to .ac3 conversions

I have some problems while converting .wav files to .ac3 using besweetgui v0.6 with besweet v1.4. I understand that in order to have a dvd compatible ac3, the ac3 must 192 to 224Kbps for surround sound and sampling rate of 48000Hz. However, my ac3 cannot be played with 48000hz settings but can be played with ower settings like 44100Hz and 32000Hz. There was no sound at all while playing the 48000Hz ac3. Can anyone Help? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about besweet, but for wav to ac3 encoding, ther's not much simpler than ffmpeggui. You're correct in that the audio has to be 48 kHz, but AFAIK, there's no such bitrate limitation on AC3.

Thanx mats.hogberg! ffmpeggui works really well! However, im still trouble why besweet cannot work while ffmpeggui can. I think there must be some mistake that i make that i do not know. Anyone care to help? Thanks!

So far, I've managed to get by (3 years soon, doing video stuff) without getting to grips with besweet. I'm sure it's extremely powerful and all, but so far, I've solved my tasks using other tools. (And I really do love command line tools!) I'm afraid I can't help you further with this.

In short, Besweet is nicely powerful, yet having no decent GUI sucks. BeLight is a good attempt at a simplified GUI for it, but even that has issues. It's just not a simple app to use, and depending on version, it may not have the AC3 encoder, or it will produce non-compliant AC3. Ffmpeggui is much easier to use, but with the same encoder engine as besweet, it too can sometimes produce non-compliant AC3.
The cheapest option I have found, is tmpgenc's AC3 plugin, which produces totally compliant AC3.

Thanks reboot. Sad to say, i do have 'tmpgenc plus' but not 'tmpgenc ac3 plugins'. Quite broke nowadays so the idea of buying something new is totally out of the question haha.... Any GPL programs to recommend? Sound a bit stingy huh haha..

Ffmpeggui is your next best option.
Last I looked the AC3 plugin was only around $14 or $15.

I have Audition 1.5 and Soundforge 7 on the PC side, and both work well, but what can I use on the Mac side to make AC3 files more workable?

-Froget all these problems, etc. I suggest you buy Sony Vegas. It's got a powerful Dolby Certified AC-3 encoder.

In case you have Nero Wave Editor you can also use the Nero AC3 plugin to covert wav to AC3. Though Nero's plugin is also based on ffmpeggui. But it provides little more options.

Well, maybe AC3Machine (works with besweet) is simple as ffmpeggui. Can accept ac3, wav mpa,2,3 and besweet listfile for batch.
