  1. ok i just bought a pioneer 220
    i used to have a liteon 5101
and a Himage dvr no name junk

ok the himage was good for tv recording in al modes i was happy with it, but it had a lot of trouble with recording from vhs source

the liteon seemed ok picture wasnt the greatest (a little too dark)
it seemed to do the vhs source recording fine, but once i tried to play back the recordings on a dvd player most of the dvd's the first chapter would be fine then from the second on it played really pixilated (extremley unwatchable).

now i got the pioneer it records tv amazing the best by far, it has lots of nice bells and whistles really impressed
but unfortunately as far as the vhs source goes the picture seems really jumpy and choppy at times for some tapes (most tapes)

...i use a decent hifi jvc vcr with it...

has anyone else had similar problems with the pioneer?

im wondering if i should give the panny e55 a try
has anyone had good experiances with older tapes and the e55

    or any other reccomendations perhaps?

    thanks!!

You probably need a Full Frame TBC for those VHS videos.

The only two that are somewhat affordable:

    1.) AVT-8710 for about $195 USD

    2.) DataVideo TBC-1000 for about $290 USD

Either one of those should solve your problem although sometimes using a different VCR can help.

Also you might try to fiddle about with the TBC control on the Pioneer (it has more than one setting) though the TBC in the Pioneer is NOT a Full Frame TBC but instread is a Line TBC and often times that is just not enough ... hence the "need" oftentimes, with VHS, for a "full blown" Full Frame TBC like the two units listed above.

I have both the Pioneer 520 and the Panny E85, the Panny gives a better copy of old VHS tapes.
