  1. Are there any benefits to getting an HDMI capable DVD player for an EDTV? I have a Panasonic TH37PD25UP 37" EDTV and am currently viewing DVD's through my XBOX so any purchase I make will be an improvement. I'm not planning on setting up an elaborate entertainment system (ie. receiver, 6.1 surround) so streamlining my cabling is not a strong enough reason for me. I just am trying to figure out the optimum set up for my EDTV w/o getting too caught up in upconversion and other DVD player considerations that I believe are primarily targeted at the HDTV market.

I would like to get a player capable of handling DVD-r and mp3 (not a neccessity, but it would be nice). Just doing a little research and reading these forums, I have been considering players such as the Panasonic S97S or the Sony DVP975.

Should be a new post, but... Aesthetics are also an issue in my house (*wife*) so I've been looking at the ZVOX and SoundMatters Mainstage. Anybody have any experience with either of these speakers? Any suggestions as to the best DVD player bang for my buck would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help in advance.

  2. To the untrained eye, you would not notice diffrence from a component connection. I would not spend extra money to get a DVD with that connection if you didn't have too. Use your budgeted amount on the best progressive scan you can get with either connection

EDTV means enhanced definition tv and it is not high def the best you will get is 480p from it and thats it,hdmi is high def up to 1080i and your tv will not give you high def because it is not able to display that many lines.

  4. Well, seeing as there was an HDMI input on my EDTV I thought I should at least explore going that route. Seems the smart choice for me would be to save some money and just get a decent prog scan player. Maybe the Panasonic DVDS47S. Thanks all for the input.
